It is our duty and delight that we should everywhere and always offer thanks and praise to you, O God, through Jesus Christ...

These are the opening words of the Great Thanksgiving in Marty Haugen's setting of the liturgy, Now the Feast and Celebration.

The St. Barnabas community has adopted Duty and Delight as its theme for financial stewardship, recognizing the two-fold nature of the stewardship as both duty and delight.

  • On one hand, as members of a congregation we have a responsibility or duty to give a "fair share" of our financial resources to provide this excellent building, to have pastors to lead worship and be available to provide pastoral care for us, and to have a staff to coordinate the many ministries of the congregation,

  • On the other hand, we don't just give "to a budget", but give "from our blessings", an act of joyful delight. Many Christians will attest that the richest spiritual blessing - the good news that stewardship is an act of delight - is found in the arena of sacrificial giving.

In 2008, St. Barnabas produced its own Duty & Delight video that explores how being disciplined about our financial stewardship is an important component of being spiritually healthy people. We invite you to watch it. The movie lasts about 35 minutes. It is divided into nine tracks to enable the movie to load more quickly. When one track is done, just click on the next one.
