The St. Barnabas Orchestra (SBO) is a multi-generational orchestra comprised of professionals, amateurs, former and current band/orchestra students, beginners, members, non-members - basically, anyone who wants to come play with us and have a good time. The tunes are arranged with separate parts for less experienced students and more demanding parts for those who've been playing awhile (and who have kept their chops up!). It's always a lot of fun and greatly appreciated by the church (and visitors). The tunes are sent out ahead of time, then we meet for one rehearsal. The next day we play 2 coffee-hour concerts, and that's it. The concerts are short - about 15 minutes each.
SBCA students and their parents (and siblings) are especially invited to join us in putting this orchestra together.
We don't play for worship - this is strictly for fun. Visitors are always welcome in any of our worship services - but you're just as welcome to sit in the Ministry Center with a cup of coffee and some fine pastries; it's always your choice. And it's a great chance for former band and orchestra students to get that instrument out of the closet and have some fun with it again.
For professionals - sorry, there's no pay for anyone (and that includes the conductor/arranger). But it's good exposure and wonderful for our youth. And it's just plain fun - 5-6 tunes worked up with minimal rehearsing.
It all takes place in the church's Ministry Center - the big room to your right as you come in the main entrance.
