Dr. Mary Newton
Dr. Mary Newton joined the staff at St. Barnabas Lutheran Church as the organist in 1999. A native of Minnesota, Mary is both the Organist at St. Barnabas and the Director of the St. Barnabas Lunchtime Organ Recital series.
Mary holds a BA degree in Music from Gustavus Adolphus College in St. Peter, MN, a Master’s in Church Music degree from Concordia University Chicago in River Forest, IL, and a DMA in organ performance from the University of Minnesota.
She is very active in the American Guild of Organists. She is the student competition coordinator for the Twin Cities’ annual organ competition, and she also serves on the national competition committee. Mary is on the faculty of the St. Barnabas Center for the Arts, teaching both piano and organ.
