Director of Ensembles and Center for the Arts
Composer, conductor, arranger, teacher, hornist, singer – Jeff Whitmill has been involved in music all his life. His mother, a gifted pianist, and his father, a creative mind of the first order, raised him in a home full of music. Some of his earliest memories are of playing in the back yard while listening to his mother play Chopin, Bach and Mozart.
Jeff has conducted – and written for – school music groups, community, church and corporate choirs and professional and community musical theatres. His compositions include 2 symphonies, 6 masses, 3 ballets and a men’s choral work about salads.
Jeff wears a lot of hats of St. Barnabas. As Director of the Center for the Arts, he oversees all music lessons, schedules recitals, conducts a beginning orchestra and the 5-times yearly St. Barnabas Orchestra, hosts monthly professional jazz concerts, hangs and curates monthly art shows and is one of the readers in its Poetry Smackdown programs.
Jeff also conducts the church’s Senior Choir, the St. Barnabas Brass and occasional pick ’em up ensembles he puts together for worship services. He arranges or composes music for all these groups.
He doesn’t sleep all that much…
Jeff and his wife, Glenna, came to St. Barnabas in 2004. They have two grown daughters and 2 of the world’s loveliest, most brilliant granddaughters.
