St. Barnabas is able to receive offerings online by credit card or debit card. This is in addition to the “GivingPlus” program it has offered for many years where people are able to give by Electronic Fund Transfer (EFT) from their checking or savings account.
Giving online is easy and allows one to set up automatic recurring contributions and view one’s online giving history from anywhere one has access to the Internet. Simply follow these easy steps:
- Click on the “Give Online” button
- On the next screen, click on the “Create Profile” button, then
- Follow the onscreen instructions to create an online profile and to make a one-time or recurring contribution. You will enter your email address and create your own password.
You will be given the option of making an EFT from your checking or savings account or using a credit card or debit card.
The option you choose does make a difference to the congregation. An EFT costs the congregation $0.20 per transaction. A credit or debit card gift carries higher fees — $0.38 per transaction plus 2.65% of the gift. For example, a credit card gift of $100 would cost the congregation $3.03 ($0.38 transaction fee plus 2.65% of $100).
Recognizing that credit card gifts come with a cost, donors are given the option of checking a box to indicate that they are willing to pay the 2.65% fee. If they choose to do that, a $100 gift will actually show up as a $102.65 charge on their credit card and a $1,000 gift will show up as a charge of $1026.50. It is not required that individuals pick up this cost, but it is a way of recognizing that the convenience of using a credit card does come with a cost.
The Online Donation Page has the same options as an offering envelope, allowing people to divide their offering among the following funds:
- Current Expense/Benevolence
- Extra Principal
- Gift of Love
One’s giving preferences can be modified or deleted at any time.
