Serving the Scattered Community

Charity and Service
St. Barnabas is fortunate to have a number of opportunities for our community to participate in charity and service. These include service opportunities at Interfaith Outreach Center of Plymouth, our monthly Gifts of Love collections, and the annual JustGifts market.

Political Action
St. Barnabas Lutheran Church supports housing initiatives with Beacon Interfaith Housing Collaborative. Our church first got involved by participating in the Families Moving Forward program. In prior years, we hosted the families to sleep in our church basement for 1 or 2 weeks each year as they were in transition to find affordable housing. Recently, we have participated in lobbying activity at the state Capitol, and have hosted community gatherings.

Accompaniment and Presence
We support our partner congregations Redeemer Lutheran Church in North Minneapolis and San Pablo/St. Paul in the Phillips Neighborhood of Minneapolis. We also engage in our community through our presence at events such as the Golden Valley Pride Festival.

Education
We offer periodic opportunities to educate ourselves on topics of justice and outreach. We have speakers from our Gifts of Love recipient ministries come lead adult forums between services. Over the summer, we host a Summer Book Group around an important topic in Christian service. This summer we read Transforming: The Bible and the Lives of Transgender Christians.
